The one about the backyard

Seeing as I wasn't raised on a farm (unlike some people that I happened to marry) I had no idea how much work went into maintaining an acre of land. Literally every single spare minute nowadays is spent weeding, mowing the lawn, pruning, and just in general clearing up. But we do have some nice results to show for our efforts. Recently our neighbors moved and we bought their playhouse.
Which as you can see when connected to Peter's old 'pirate ship' makes for a pretty cool setup.

We had to repaint it and buy new swings, but Peter loves his new playhouse. Which he calls his 'rescue center.'

And then there's the garden. Travis borrowed a friend's roto-tiller and maybe got a little carried away with that guy. We now have over 1,000 sq ft of garden! That's nine rows, 13 mounds, and three raised beds worth. So far we have planted pumpkins, onions, tomatoes, peas, carrots, corn, watermelon, cucumbers, cantaloupes, peppers, and sunflowers.
We'll see what all of that grows - or what the bunnies and squirrels don't eat.

He even set up his own flood irrigation system. Basically it's a long pipe that goes the length of the rows with a hole for each row. He turns the water on for a few hours each day and all the rows get filled up. Or we forget to turn the water off and it really gets flooded.
Good thing we have our own well or I can bet our water bill would be pretty steep this year.
Peter contributed to the gardening effort by making mud puddles.
We'll see how much our garden produces this fall, but for now I know Travis and Peter both are having a ball playing 'farmer.'

An acre may be difficult but wait until add garden work to that!!! That is a HUGE garden I am impressed.

My dad (who also grew up on a farm) still does large gardens at our home. He keeps coming up with better ways to "shape" the dirt too.
