Kings & Sequoia National Park

Over Labor Day, we headed up to Kings and Sequoia National Park for the long weekend. Despite the park being a bit crowded, we had a great adventure climbing around all the big trees and just in general getting dirty.

After going to see the General Grant tree grove, we drove up to Zumwalt Meadow and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon skipping rocks and hiking around the meadow.

Then, chasing sunset, we stopped by the site of an old logging base and ran around to see all the 'big stumps' as Nora kept calling them. This one looked like it belonged in the Lord of the Rings.

What a great way to spend the day in the gorgeous park. It was one of the best vacations we've had in awhile. Everyone got along and behaved and was just happy to be together. I'm so glad we had the chance to go.

Back to School

Whew! We are behind! School started for the Millet family at the beginning of August and for the most part, it's been a pretty smooth transition.

Our biggest change was that Benji started kindergarten this year. What a grown up little man!

Peter made the transition to 3rd grade in Mrs. Bennett's class - which we were so happy about since she goes to our church and specializes in STEM education. Peter could not have been happier - especially with two of his best friends, Carter and Nehemiah, in his class.

I have the cutest three little monkeys.

Peter waltzed off to class and we hung out with Benji until it was time to go inside. He is in Mrs. Larsen's class (the same teacher Peter had) and we LOVE her! To top it off, there are at least 8-10 kids in his class Benji already knew from either preschool or church. Here he is on the first day with his two besties, Daisy and Tyler.

It's been a bit of rough transition for Benji, but we knew that going in. Up until school started, Benji was taking a nap everyday so with full day kindergarten, he often gets pretty wiped out afterwards. Which has led to a few scenes such as this.

But we are learning to keep him well-rested. Nora definitely misses her buddies every day - she still wanders around asking "Yere's Benji? Yere's Peter?"
I found this cute little tea set for her and we spent a few days playing with nothing else. At least until all the pieces got broken!

I can't believe how grown-up these kids are getting. Benji has already lost two teeth - one while we were in Sweden and Grandpa had to ask the tooth fairy to come visit.
